Rocla secures contract for additional concrete sleepers

Rocla has secured a multi-million dollar extension to the contract to supply concrete sleepers to the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC). This is to produce sleepers for different parts of the New South Wales network upgrade, including the Hunter Region and other interstate rail projects.

The works are part of the ARTC's larger North-South Improvement Strategy which encompasses several projects and the upgrade of the entire Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane rail line. The extension will follow on from Rocla recently providing 1.35 Million sleepers to the ARTC.

To complete current projects, Rocla's concrete sleeper plants in Grafton and Mittagong have been operating round the clock.  An additional requirement in the extension is for the production of dual gauge sleepers to be laid in the Queensland network.

Thanks to the Federal Government's $1.2 billion dollar investment in rail infrastructure, Rocla's sleeper plants will now continue to operate at full capacity until at least November, producing standard and dual gauge concrete sleepers.

"Rocla is pleased to have been awarded this contract. It will allow us to continue full production at our sleeper factories and is a good outcome for jobs. Not only for our business, but the additional flow-on effects to our suppliers will have a positive impact on the regions' economies," said Stephen Baker, General Manager, Rocla Pipeline Products.
