Upgrade of Sewage Pump Station WS11
Wyong, New South Wales
Manufacture and delivery of concrete vertical shaft segments for sewer pumping station.
7.0m diameter - 8.0m depth.
Installed using the Underpin Method, progressively bolting the concrete segments together at the base of the excavation.
As excavation of spoil deepens, rings are progressively locked into place whilst external grouting is used for support.
Rocla Pipeline Products successfully specified a Vertical Segmental Shaft (VSS) system as a sewer pumping station to consultants GHD. The VSS system is used as a Caisson structure for the Pump Station floor and 200mm thick concrete liner wall.
The contractor elected to install the VSS system, and Gongues Constructions used the underpin method of installation, as rock / shale existed throughout the location.
Lachlan Bryan from Gongues said the VSS system allowed for minimal equipment required to undertake the installation due to the unique design.
“We were very happy with installing the Rocla VSS system as we could install each segment concurrently after initial site preparation was done. This saved on staffing and machinery, as well as the usual formwork normally required.”
The WS11 Vertical Segmental Shaft project is 7.0m dia and 8.0m deep. The VSS system can also be vertically jacked if soil conditions are poor.
Rocla also has designs for 4.5, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 & 8.0m dia applications to 30.0m deep.
