Gailes Site Wins Safety Award

At the inaugural Fletcher Building Health and Safety Excellence Awards gala dinner held in Auckland on 8th October 2007, Rocla's Gailes site won in the category for "Most Effective Site Safety Initiative."

Fletcher Building CEO Jonathan Ling when presenting the awards said, "These awards are about creating a safety culture - they are about recognising and rewarding employees who demonstrate excellence in safety. Our finalists and winners are role models for other employees and we hope these awards will encourage others to pursue an excellence in safety."

Bernard Ansaldo, Northern Region Manager for Rocla was proud to accept the award on behalf of Gailes. He acknowledged the significant involvement and efforts of all the employees at Gailes in getting behind the safety culture change program and the consequent substantial reduction in injury rates. There was a significant reduction in Total Injury Frequency Rates (TIFR) from 71 to 15, with time off work reduced from 227 days to 11 days.

The Rocla group's safety program titled Rocla Safe - Take Care Always has developed around the Gailes safety initiatives and been rolled out across the national business led by Rocla's head office in Sydney. The principal aim of Rocla Safe is to create a "zero harm" workplace where all employees can enjoy the benefits of an injury free lifestyle. It encourages every individual at all levels of our business to take personal responsibility for safety and take action to make safety a priority across all Rocla sites.
