Jumbo drainage upgrade for new terminal

Rocla Pipeline Products in Adelaide supplied a range of precast drainage products for the new $240 million terminal under construction at Adelaide Airport.

The 750-metre-long terminal building will service all domestic and international travellers at a rate of 3000 passengers an hour and up to 27 aircraft at the same time, including the new A380 super jumbo.

The drainage system carries runoff from the huge terminal roof, as well as from new aircraft aprons and carparks, to stormwater detention basins. Rocla supplied more than 3000 metres of pipe in diameters up to 900mm as well as around 600 metres of precast box culverts in sizes up to 2400 x 900.

Rocla's engineering department designed the airside culverts under the aircraft aprons to take the weight of jumbo jets. Adelaide Airport Limited managing director, Phil Baker, said local companies had rallied to the terminal project and were working "fast and furiously" to keep construction on track for completion in late 2005.

"The new terminal is the most significant commercial construction project currently under way in Adelaide and while it will provide a significant tourism boost on its completion, it is also playing a major role in boosting local businesses during the construction phase," Mr Baker said.
