Modern GPT connected to the past

Images

Rockdale Council recently discovered a remnant of Sydney's past while connecting a Rocla CleansAll® gross pollutant trap to an existing stormwater pipeline.

During excavation, contractors Pan Civil were surprised to find that the stormwater drain was not a concrete pipe but a brick arched conduit with a concrete floor and still in excellent condition.

Sydney Water, who owns the drain, believes the brick pipe was built in the 1930s during the Depression, when numerous brickwork drains and kerbs were constructed as job-creation programs.

This was the third CleansAll® gross pollutant trap (GPT) installed by Rockdale Council as part of its ongoing stormwater management program. The site is a recently acquired council reserve which happened to be above the stormwater drain, providing a convenient location for the GPT.

Pan Civil used an in situ pit to connect the new CleansAll® 1350 GPT to the old brick conduit, which carries the cleansed stormwater a further 150 metres to the Muddy Creek open stormwater channel.
