Pre-stressed piles provide secure moorings for state-of-the-art marina

Images

Rocla® concrete marina piles are taking pride of place at a new marina development at Queenscliff Harbour in Victoria.

Located on the western side of Port Phillip Bay, in a pristine environment and close to Bass Strait, Queenscliff Harbour is a popular boating destination.

However, the harbour's old fixed timber wharf was inappropriate for fibreglass hulled power yachts and was only used by older craft and commercial boats.

The wharf was demolished and the harbour is being expanded and redeveloped to provide a modern marina and state-of-the-art maintenance facility with up to 300 berths. With additional pile moorings and dry stack storage, the facility will be able to cater for up to 450 boats in total.

The marina is being built by Bellingham Marine under a design and construct contract. Rocla supplied approximately 80 piles in lengths of 10 to 11 metres and strengths of 175 and 275 kNm. The Rocla® concrete marine piles were installed using an accurate hydraulic driving rig mounted on a jack-up barge.

Rocla® marine piles are manufactured from dense spun concrete and are pre-stressed to provide a durable, long-life solution in one of the harshest natural environments.

Concrete marina piles can also enhance the appearance of marine structures, providing an aesthetically appealing shape and surface finish to match the typical concrete construction of floating pontoons.
