When faced with the challenge of carrying out piling work in the middle of the river, the council realised that a row of MassBloc® units would make an effective cofferdam to provide scour protection for the drilling platforms. By combining the blocks with a backfill of 100mm stones, the council was able to cut off the flow of the river, one half at a time. The temporary dams took about an hour to construct. Upon completion of the temporary works in the river, the MassBloc® units were removed and will be reused at another bridge site.
