Rocla’s fast-build MassBloc® retaining wall product has proven a highly efficient construction solution for Thiess on the eastern section of the $1.7 billion Hunter Expressway project.
The Expressway, which is being delivered on behalf of the Australian and New South Wales governments, is one of the biggest road infrastructure projects to be built in the Hunter.
Its eastern section spans 13 kilometres from the F3 Freeway to Kurri Kurri and includes two grade-separated interchanges, as well as over-bridges and three high viaducts that will bridge the steep gullies through the Sugarloaf Range.
Rocla’s MassBloc® retaining wall system was initially used for retaining walls at the base of a grout batching plant that needed to be erected quickly at the site. Later it also enabled rapid and easy construction of bases for the three viaducts.
In addition to retaining wall products, Rocla also supplied more than 15 kilometres of steel reinforced concrete pipe to the project, including some specified at marine grade.
