Rocla has won a contract worth in excess of A$115 million to supply 1.35 million concrete sleepers in NSW to the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) over the next two and a half years.
The Rocla concrete sleepers will be used on improvements to the main Melbourne to Brisbane rail freight lines. This is a great result and comes about through the efforts of the team of Ric Lewtas, Gary Brown, Bill Knight and led by Ken Beattie.
Rocla is the only manufacturer of concrete railway sleepers in NSW and has two plants located at Mittagong south of Sydney and Grafton on the NSW north coast.
Both plants are about to be upgraded to manufacture the ARTC sleepers and planning of the extensions to both factories is well progressed. In addition there will be a substantial increase in Rocla’s workforce at Mittagong and Grafton to meet the increased production requirements.
